Sleep Medicine
The average adult needs 8 to 8 1/2 hours of good sleep each night. Children and teens need even more.
- Infants (3–11 months) - 14–15 hours sleep
- Toddlers (11 months–2 years) - 12–14 hours sleep
- Preschoolers (3–5 years) - 11–15 hours sleep
- School age (6–17 years) - 10–11 hours sleep
- Adults (18 & older) - 8–8.5 hours sleep
Consider this: Sleeping the recommended number of hours doesn't mean you’re getting enough rest. A sleep disorder could be disrupting your slumber.
Lack of sound sleep can seriously impact your health and the health of those around you. Sleep disorders can increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and obesity. They can affect job performance, mental health and family dynamics.
Whether it's snoring, leg movement, trouble falling or staying asleep or some other issue, don't ignore the symptoms. Call any of Lutheran Health Network's sleep disorders centers today to ask your sleep-related questions or to schedule a sleep study.
