Hyperbaric Medicine (HBO)
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a non-invasive way to help heal tissue damage. Treatments benefit patients who have certain types of complicated or slow-healing wounds, such as bone infections or diabetic foot ulcers, and can accelerate the healing process.
Patients are surrounded by 100% oxygen in a comfortable, pressurized chamber. This saturation promotes the body’s natural immune system and healing responses, allowing wounds to heal more easily, from the inside out.
Single-person hyperbaric chambers are located in Lutheran Hospital’s Outpatient Wound Clinic, which offers specialized care for serious or complicated wounds. The program is under the direction of a physician who is board certified in wound medicine and surgery, as well as undersea and hyperbaric medicine.
