Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital Breaks Ground on Expansion Project
4/19/2023
A groundbreaking event Tuesday kicked off Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital’s expansion portion of its ongoing $30 million capital investment project.
Hospital and community leaders gathered near the main entrance of Warsaw’s only full-service hospital at 2101 E. DuBois Dr. to turn ceremonial shovels of dirt where the expanded, redesigned lobby with a new public entrance will be located.
“Lutheran Health Network is committed to the residents of Kosciusko County and the surrounding area,” said Lynn Mergen, CEO. “I couldn't be prouder of our physicians, our talented local leadership team as well as the members of our board. I know they will make sure Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital continues to bring value to this community through the excellent care we provide.”
The project includes 25,700 square feet of new construction and renovations.
- An expanded, redesigned lobby with new public entry
- Renovations to all patient rooms, public spaces and nursing stations on the medical, surgical and intensive care units
- Updates to the hospital façade
- New campus exterior signage to enhance patient wayfinding
- Surgical services expansion and updates, including:
- Expanded pre- and post-surgical bays with three additional spaces for increased patient privacy and more room for family members to be with loved ones
- Renovation of existing operating room so surgeons can accommodate more complex cases, allowing patients to be scheduled sooner and remain close to home when surgery is needed
- Expanded sterile processing area with new technology for faster equipment sterilization
“The commitment to grow and add medical services over the years has broadened local access to care that keeps families close when the time is of great importance,” said Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer. “When the need for hospital care becomes a necessity, newer modern facilities more confidently welcome patients. That investment in facilities is what we celebrate today.”
Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital is also the area’s only hospital with both an accredited chest pain center and accredited stroke center. The hospital offers a variety of quality services close to home, including emergency care, an urgent care center, heart and stroke care, orthopedics, occupational health, rehabilitation services, a sleep center, a wound care center and a cancer care center providing chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Services will remain uninterrupted during the project.
“Quality healthcare is a key factor in determining where business leaders consider where to grow and start their businesses as well as where individuals choose to live,” said Alan Tio, CEO of Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation. “This hospital has long been focused on providing specialized services right on this campus, which directly contributes to the brand promise we have when we say you can find your way in Kosciusko County.”
Construction has already begun and the projects’ progress will be periodically updated at lutherankosciuskohospital.com.
