Lutheran Hospital's EEG laboratory only in northeastern Indiana to attain accreditation for brain activity diagnostics

Lutheran one of eight in Indiana to achieve this distinction

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Monday, Oct. 23, 2017) - The EEG laboratory at Lutheran Hospital has been accredited by the EEG Laboratory Accreditation Board of ABRET. The American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists is the credentialing board for EEG, Evoked Potential, Long-Term Monitoring and Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Technologists. Lutheran's accreditation is valid for the next five years.

"Our team works tirelessly to ensure patients receive the most precise testing. Their dedication to accuracy has earned the trust of the physicians reading the results."

To become accredited, Lutheran had to have a registered technologist on staff and have impeccable recording quality of brain activity. Lutheran has two registered technologists and is the only hospital in the region with credentialed technologists. Fort Wayne Neurology has one registered technologist.

"We go a little bit further than our accreditation standards," said Charles O'Donnell, registered technologist, Lutheran Hospital. "We care greatly about the quality of the test which, explains why we are so proud of the fact that we achieved this goal. It's a highlight of our careers."

ABRET's Lab Accreditation process evaluates technical standards, the quality of the laboratory's output and lab management issues. Successful accreditation means the EEG laboratory has met strict standards and is to be recognized as a place where patients and physicians can have confidence they are receiving quality diagnostics.

ABRET formed in 1964 through a joint effort by the American Society of Electroencephalographic Technologists and the American EEG Society, now known as the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. The Laboratory Accreditation Board was founded in 2004.
