Lutheran Hospital commemorates loved ones during the holiday season with remembrance trees

Personalized ornaments adorn holiday trees in south lobby

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Oct. 27, 2017) - Memorial ornaments will again be hung on remembrance trees at Lutheran Hospital this upcoming holiday season. The public is invited to place a personalized ornament on one of the trees Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The open house includes holiday music and memory-making activities for children, followed by a special dedication at 12:45 p.m. The names of loved ones will be read at that time. In its ninth year, the annual Remembrance Tree display offers the entire community a way to commemorate loved ones who are gone but not forgotten.

Specialized ornaments are available to memorialize fallen heroes from the armed forces, fire or police departments, as well as organ donors. Loved ones can also select a Lego ornament in memory of a child to place on the dedicated children's tree.

Volunteers paint each ornament with a family member or friend's name. People can opt to write a note to or about the loved one that will be placed inside their ornament.

The ornaments remain on the trees until after the new year. They can be picked up from Lutheran Hospital's volunteer services between Jan. 3-5, and Jan. 9-12, then taken home as a free memento. Nurses from Lutheran Hospital plan this special activity each year.

Lutheran Hospital's south lobby is located in Medical Office Building Two, 7910 W. Jefferson Blvd., near the Lutheran Cancer Center. The campus' south parking garage offers the closest parking. The public may call (260) 435-7704, for more information.
