Lutheran Health Physician Obtains Obesity Medicine Certification

Wells County native and Lutheran Health Physicians family medicine provider Rachel Huffman, M.D., is a board-certified family medicine physician providing care just outside of Fort Wayne in Ossian, Markle and Warren.
Obesity is the most prevalent chronic disease in our society. Yet, many physicians are not trained in how to manage it. Earlier this year Huffman was certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) as an ABOM Diplomate. ABOM Diplomates are specialists in obesity medicine who undergo rigorous training and an extensive examination process to achieve this designation.
Obesity medicine is dedicated to the overall care of patients with obesity. Dr. Huffman combines science-based medicine with individualized obesity treatment, resulting in improved health outcomes for her patients Her approach includes nutrition, physical activity, behavior and medication.
"I have an interest in and specialized training on treating obesity as a chronic disease,” said Dr. Huffman. “My goal is to help my patients find a healthier lifestyle that they can maintain throughout their lives to help keep weight off."
