Dupont named one of the nation's 100 top hospitals for the third time in five years
2/29/2016
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (March 1, 2016) - For the second consecutive year, Dupont Hospital has been named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals® by Truven Health AnalyticsTM, a leading provider of data-driven analytics and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare. This is the third time Dupont has been recognized with this honor. It first earned the designation in 2012.
Conducted annually since 1993, the 100 Top Hospitals study identifies hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value to their communities, based on a national balanced scorecard measuring overall organizational performance across 11 key analytic measures including patient care, operational efficiency, and financial stability.
"Nearly 15 years after we first opened our doors as a community hospital focused on the delivery of high-quality patient care and customer service, our team members and physicians continue to demonstrate "The Dupont Difference" in all areas," said Chad Towner, chief executive officer, Dupont Hospital. "Our role as a catalyst in northern Fort Wayne has been due in large part to results verified by independent organizations and the enthusiasm of families who have grown along with us. We view each accolade we receive as a springboard to bigger and better things, not a finish line."
In November, Dupont Hospital was also recognized by The Joint Commission as a Top Performer on the Key Quality Measures® in the areas of Surgical Care, Perinatal Care, Pneumonia and Immunization. Dupont is one of only 117 hospitals nationally to achieve the Top Performer distinction in at least one key quality measure for all five years the program has been in existence.
The current Top Hospitals study concluded that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of this year's winners:
- More than 104,000 additional lives could be saved.
- Nearly 48,400 additional patients could be complication free.
- $2 billion in inpatient costs could be saved.
- The average patient stay would decrease by half a day.
"The 2016 100 Top Hospitals award winners represent the highest national standards in hospital care and management. They set the benchmarks for peers around the country to follow," said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president at Truven Health Analytics. "Hospitals in three out of the five report groups actually reduced overall expense year over year, while improving patient outcomes - exactly the results that the entire industry hopes to attain."
To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, Truven Health researchers evaluated close to 3,000 short-term, acute-care, nonfederal hospitals. Risk-adjusted methodologies were used to analyze public information - Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Hospital Compare reports. Hospitals do not apply, and winners do not pay to market this honor.
The winning hospitals were announced in the February 28 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.
