Dukes Celebrates ER Completion
12/12/2016
Peru, Ind. (Dec. 13, 2016) - Dukes Memorial Hospital will be hosting a ribbon cutting event on Dec. 13, 2016, to celebrate the completion of a $3.5 million renovation and expansion project that added an additional 1,175 square feet to the emergency department.
The 8,550 square foot project, which broke in February 2016, was done in three phases with the emergency room remaining open and fully functional during the renovation. The expanded space offers many amenities, including a larger reception area, triage room, larger EMS office, nine private exam rooms, a results pending room and a decontamination bay.
A key factor leading to the initiation of the project was to update the appearance with all new equipment and beds, continued focus on short wait times and improved patient flow. The Dukes ER has 11,000 visits a year. The ER was last renovated 10 years ago, which is a pretty standard timeframe.
Dukes CEO Debra Close said she is very impressed with the ER project and appreciated the community's patience as its been renovated over the past year. "I hope it reassures people that they don't have to go out of the county for quality care and technical expertise. They can stay right here in their hometown and receive that care, and that what we strive for every day," Close said.
