Adult and pediatric trauma centers at Lutheran Hospital reverified as Level II
3/26/2018
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (March 27, 2018) - Lutheran Hospital today announced its adult and pediatric trauma centers have been reverified as Level II by the Verification Review Committee, a subcommittee of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. This achievement recognizes a trauma center's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.
The support and open communication between first responders and physicians continues to be invaluable in maintaining Lutheran's Level II verification for its adult and pediatric trauma centers. Both centers were first verified as Level II in 2009, and again in 2012 and 2015.
"Verified Level II trauma centers, supported by three helicopters and a fleet of 25 ambulances, have helped establish Lutheran as a leader in trauma care and critical care transport over the past decade," said Bryan Mathieson, executive director of trauma and acute care surgery, Lutheran Hospital. "Without the skill of our caregivers and the vital input of first responders throughout the tri-state region, none of this would be possible."
Established by the American College of Surgeons in 1987, the COT's Consultation / Verification Program for Hospitals promotes the development of trauma centers in which participants provide not only the hospital resources necessary for trauma care, but also the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients. This spectrum encompasses the prehospital phase through the rehabilitation process.
The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical education and practice and to improve the care of the surgical patient. The College has over 72,000 members and it is the largest association of surgeons in the world. Longstanding achievements have placed the ACS in the forefront of American surgery and have made it an important advocate for all surgical patients.
