Facility will expand healthcare options for patients in county
WABASH, Ind. (Thursday, May 18, 2017) - As part of its 6-year initiative to invest half a billion dollars to advance healthcare in northeastern Indiana, Lutheran Health Network today announced plans to build a 30,000-square-foot outpatient center in Wabash. The Lutheran Health Wabash medical office building will house primary care physician practices, a physical therapy and rehabilitation area, an urgent care clinic, a full laboratory, a diagnostic imaging suite, an infusion therapy center and timeshare space for additional specialists.
A groundbreaking is scheduled for Monday at 1 p.m. Lutheran Health Wabash will be located at 1700 S. Alber St., which is just south of U.S. 24 on the north side of Wabash. Lutheran Health Network officials, Mayor Scott Long, developers, community leaders and others supporters are expected to be in attendance.
"Our focus is to provide added convenience and choice for patients who prefer the range of services we are able to offer," said Brian Bauer, chief executive officer, Lutheran Health Network. "This outpatient center will bring LHN-affiliated and independent providers together under one roof, which we believe best addresses the unique needs of this community."
Due to be completed by the end of the year, the project's total investment is approximately $10 million including equipment, furnishings and a long-term lease. A total of 36 new jobs will be created as result of this project, 23 will be LHN employees. Lutheran Air II has flown out of Wabash Municipal Airport since November 2014.
"The City of Wabash is excited to welcome Lutheran Health Network and its most recent investment in our community," said City of Wabash Mayor Scott Long. "This addition will benefit the citizens of Wabash and its surrounding communities who prefer to receive care from Lutheran Health Network closer to home. We also look forward to LHN becoming a partner in the many other local projects to make our community a better place to live, work and play!"
In addition to primary care and family medicine, laboratory services, X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound and mammography will be available to patients. The Orthopedic Hospital of Lutheran Health Network will also have a satellite office for physical therapy.
Another objective of the Lutheran Health Wabash outpatient center is to provide patients with greater continuity of care as a result of enhanced electronic medical record capabilities that allow information to be easily transferred between LHN facilities.
The Wabash urgent care facility hours will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology will manage a therapy infusion clinic 2 to 3 days per week, making this specialized treatment more accessible for area patients.
All tenants including Lutheran Health Network will lease the building through CBRE | Sturges | Brokerage Services and Green Star Development. Moake Park Group is providing the design plans and the general contractor is Witwer Construction, Inc.
The Alber Street site was chosen based on the easy access it provides for area residents and businesses. This geographically important location comprises the southern and western portions of Lutheran Health Network's 23-county service area.
