Virtual Visits for COVID-19 Screening
Lutheran Health Network is now offering virtual visits for individuals who are concerned about whether they have contracted COVID-19. Through our Virtual Health Connect app, virtual visits, from the comfort of your home, are for individuals with minor to moderate symptoms. Doctors can evaluate symptoms, such as fever, cough and shortness of breath, discuss known risk factors, answer questions and recommend next steps, including referring you to the right location for an in-person visit if needed. Virtual visits can help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
Schedule a Virtual Visit
See a doctor in 3 easy steps.
- Download the VirtualHealthConnect app. The app is free and available in your app store. Virtual visits cost $40 and are not covered by insurance.
- Create an account. It only takes a few minutes and your information is securely stored so you can see a doctor faster when you need one.
- Choose a physician. Select from a list of available providers. Read through their profiles to find the provider who’s right for you.
Virtual visits or a call to your physician’s office are the first step for those concerned about COVID-19. Most people with COVID-19 will not need hospital care and should not go to the emergency room for screening, so that ER services remain available for those with the most critical needs. However, if you have chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, a severe headache or potentially other life threatening conditions, call 911.
VirtualHealthConnect doctors use risk assessments based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization. Visits assess for symptoms such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Patients are asked about recent travel or contact with people who have been traveling or who may have the infection. While a diagnosis of COVID-19 cannot be confirmed virtually at this point, the doctors can evaluate your risk for the condition, answer your questions, and recommend next steps. They also can help coordinate referrals for in-person care if necessary.
Frequently Asked Questions about Virtual Visits
Will I see my regular doctor through VirtualHealthConnect?
No. You will see a doctor on the VirtualHealthConnect panel, which provides U.S. board-certified doctors licensed to practice medicine in Indiana. Each doctor’s profile includes his or her education and experience.
Will my doctor know what care I received through VirtualHealthConnect?
VirtualHealthConnect records are not linked with Lutheran Health Network. However, you will have an opportunity to download your visit’s summary of care to share with your regular doctor.
Are online visits as beneficial as in-person visits?
Many conditions can be evaluated and even treated using virtual visits and patients who use VirtualHealthConnect are typically very satisfied with the care they receive. While there are differences between online and in-person visits, it’s important to remember that each provider evaluates whether or not VirtualHealthConnect is appropriate for specific types of visits before offering them as an option.
In addition to COVID-19 screenings, virtual visits are available for these commonly treated conditions:
- Cough/sore throat
- Pink eye
- Sinus infection
- Ear infection
How much does a visit cost?
Visits are $40, which may be paid using a credit/debit card. We do not currently accept health insurance for payment or co-payment.
Can I use this for my child(ren)?
Yes. Create your own profile first. Once you’ve selected a doctor, enter your child’s information so he or she is the patient for that visit.
The app said it found an existing account. What does that mean?
VirtualHealthConnect may have found an account that looks similar to yours. This can happen if you’ve already enrolled online, or if your employer or health plan pre-enrolled you in the service. To use this account, select the option to email yourself a pairing code, which will automatically link the app to your account.
Why am I required to enter my phone number?
If your visit is interrupted for any reason, the provider can call you back and finish your conversation. He or she may also want to follow up with you after your visit.
